PROPOSED TRANSFER TO CAIRN
In 2018, Ancho entered into a constitutional partnership with Cairn Housing Association after 94% of tenants voted for the partnership. Ancho & Cairn are now exploring the possibility of merging into one stronger organisation and your views are vital. The Board of Ancho has agreed to seek tenants views on what benefits a merger could bring.
Who are Cairn?
Cairn have been serving local communities across Scotland for over 30 years. They are a non-profit making registered charity and housing association (just like Ancho) with over 4,000 homes and local offices in Bellshill, Edinburgh, Inverness and Thurso. In addition to general needs homes, they also have retirement and sheltered courts throughout the country.
What has the partnership delivered so far?
Tenants voted for the partnership based on a number of promises we made:
These promises have been kept, and additional support has been given to tenants such as help with the cost of living, where we gave out air fryers, food vouchers, fuel vouchers and so much more.
Why fully transfer to Cairn now?
Part of the original agreement between Cairn and Ancho was for a review of the partnership to be carried out after five years. This review has now been carried out and the Board at Ancho thinks the best way forward is for Ancho to move to Cairn. This is known as a transfer of engagements.
Over the past few years housing associations have had to deal with increased bureaucracy. Staff are spending twice the amount of time on admin and report writing when their time would be better spent on providing services to you. Substantial savings could be made by bringing both organisations into one bigger organisation.
Update
We have agreed to extend the transfer timetable as part of our due diligence. You can read more information about this here.
Once we have more information, we will be in touch to let you know the new timetable for the proposed transfer.

Tenants voted for the partnership based on a number of promises we made:
- Keeping the local office and local staff
- Investing £4.5 million in your homes
- Keeping rent increases lower for five years following the transfer
- Building new homes
- Reviewing the relationship after 5 years
These promises have been kept, and additional support has been given to tenants such as help with the cost of living, where we gave out air fryers, food vouchers, fuel vouchers and so much more.
