Responding to the concerns expressed by North Ayrshire Councillor Joe Cullinane about the protection offered to housing association tenants in the area, ANCHO Director, Elaine Gibson, said, For ANCHO, eviction has always been a last resort. We work hard with any tenant who struggles to pay their rent, for whatever reason, and we will continue to do so. Where I am satisfied that ANCHO tenants who are subject to the under occupancy charge are doing all they can to avoid falling into arrears, I will ensure that we use all legitimate means, except eviction, to collect rent due. We will work with each tenant in difficulty individually and ensure that every avenue to assist struggling tenants is explored, including rehousing to a smaller property (where available), income maximisation assistance and employability advice. The Scottish Housing Regulator recently published How We Regulate: A guide for tenants and service users. This handy new guide has been written to help you find out more about the work of the Regulator. The guide also explains what you can do if you want to find out more about your landlord, what you can expect from your landlord and how to raise concerns. Iain Muirhead, Director of Strategy and Communications, said: “We’ve written this new guide to help tenants and other service users find out more about who we are and what we do to protect their interests. We hope that people will find it useful.” How We Regulate: A guide for tenants and service users is available to download from the Regulator’s website www.scottishhousingregulator.gov.uk. The Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) regulates all social landlords in Scotland, and is setting up a new National Panel for users of social landlord services. All people who use social landlord services are invited to join the Panel – including tenants, homeless households, home owners who receive factoring or common repairs services, and Gypsies/Travellers using Council or housing association sites. Every new Panel member will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 6 x £50 prizes.
