About Us

Picture
Located 30 miles south west of Glasgow on the Clyde coast, the Association was formed in 2000 for the purpose of purchasing 770 properties from Scottish Homes throughout Irvine and neighbouring areas of Kilwinning and Dreghorn.

The organisation currently owns 703 houses and 205 garage units. We provide a management factoring service to over 250 owners and a factoring service to a further 1,200 owners in the area.

The term Registered Social Landlord (RSL) may be used which includes:
  • community housing organisations
  • housing associations
  • council housing departments
  • local housing companies, and
  • housing partnerships

ANCHO like most is more commonly known as a Housing Association which are usually non-profit making limited companies providing affordable housing. RSL's lie between private landlords and local councils in providing housing to those in need. In recent years a number of councils have transferred ownership of their houses to a housing association.

Associations differ from local authorities in being more directly accountable to its tenants. Whilst local authorities have responsibilities over education, libraries, roads and many others, a housing association is more focused on housing provision and has only in recent years included community regeneration onto its agenda.

The composition of an Association is made up from a Management Board or Committee and staff. The Board or Committee are usually made up from the tenants and others and meet monthly to discuss a wide range of issues including performance, financial results, future opportunities and governance. They are not paid for giving up a few hours of their time each month but see the fruits of their commitment in a strong community and sense of achievement.

The senior staff are employed by the Board to run the Association on a day to day basis and provide professional input and direction for the Board. It is the staff who deal with all day to day matters and put into place objectives and plans for the year ahead.

On the following pages we provide information about ANCHO for its current, future and former tenants, plus suppliers and trading partners. The website will be developed further over time as ANCHO continue to encompass new technology to enhance its services and exploit maximum value out of IT systems.
